Updated: Jan 18, 2024

Joyce Miles Joyce Coleman Miles moved to Altadena California in 1961 with

her family. She was one of 4 black children that integrated an all

white Audubon Elementary School in Altadena. Joyce went on to attend Elliott Jr High School and John Muir High. After graduating High School, she attended Pasadena City

College and Cal State Los Angeles.

“As a child, I enjoyed hiking and horseback riding through the

canyons of Altadena. Discovering the beautiful animals like

hawks, owls, deer, racoons, reptiles and lots of butterflies. Our

family yard has seen many of them.

Pasadena has greatly changed over the years. I still believe that

this community can still embrace the idea of inclusion. This city

has all the wealth and humanitarian ability to keep building up our

youth and future residents if they chose to.”
