John Muir High School

One of the three major high schools in NW Pasadena and a local landmark. It opened on March 10, 1923, as the Pasadena Vocational School. Over the decades following numerous notable residents have come through this school including celebrated author Octavia Butler, world renown opera singer, Pauletta deVaughn-Mayhofer; Jackie Robinson and so many more.

“I have found memories of attending John Muir High school and

being in the band. Every morning we marched up and down

Casitas (behind Muir) with our wonderful drum corp. The drums

echoed loudly across the San Gabriel mountains and the

community embraced it all. There was lots of school spirit back

then. I had no Idea we were being bussed for integration

purposes. Everybody got along .” - Joyce Miles
